The Singapore Zoological Gardens was named the top Asian zoo by TripAdvisor on Tuesday (Aug 5), while Resorts World Sentosa's (RWS) SEA Aquarium was ranked seventh in the Asia's aquarium list.
The travel site operator said its Travellers' Choice awards for Zoos and Aquariums identified 275 winners, with Henry Doorly Zoo in Nebraska in the United States clinching top spot for Zoos worldwide while Monteray Bay Aquarium in California came first in the Aquarium category.
The Singapore Zoological Gardens was ranked fifth worldwide, but came up trumps in Asia. For the continent, Thailand's Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Pattaya placed in second, while India's Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens in Mysore came in third.
Mr Lee Meng Tat, CEO of Wildlife Reserves Singapore, said: “We are pleased to be recognised as one of the best zoos in the world by TripAdvisor travellers. We hope that with this accolade, we are able to reach out to a greater audience in our mission to educate the public to better appreciate, protect and together secure the future for our most valued assets – wildlife.”
In the Aquariums list, RWS' SEA Aquarium came in at seventh in Asia. Japan's Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan and Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium were ranked first and second, respectively, while Thailand's Siam Ocean World was third.
