SEA Games: S’pore paddlers qualify for men’s and women’s team semi-finals
SINGAPORE: Singapore's female paddlers are a step closer to winning a team gold at the SEA Games in Myanmar.
They brushed aside Malaysia in their second group stage match 3-1 to qualify for the semi-finals unbeaten.
Yu Mengyu, Isabelle Li and Zhou Yihan all won their singles match-ups, with the only hiccup coming in the doubles, involving Yu and Zhou.
The team had thrashed Indonesia 3-0 in their first group game on Tuesday.
Jing Jun Hong, head coach for the women’s team, said: "We are likely to meet either Thailand or Vietnam in the semi-finals, depending on results. The possibility of facing Vietnam is higher. It will be a difficult fixture against either country. We'll take it point-by-point and game-by-game."
Elsewhere, Singapore got their third straight win in the men's team event.
The team led by Chen Feng swept Laos 3-0 to cement top spot in their group.
They will face Vietnam in the semi-finals.
